Astrogate Labs is a space-technology start-up based in Bengaluru, building core technologies in laser communication terminals and networks for small-satellites. Astrogate Labs aims to simplify, reduce cost of communication, and enable satellites send more data to ground. We have developed one of the industry’s smallest optical communication terminals targeted for small satellite use, further scaling our products and aiming for our first satellite mission. We aim to revolutionize satellite communications and support the growing satellite downlink needs with a network of optical ground stations and in-space relays using the technologies developed in-house.

Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer II
Duration: Full-time
Location: Sahakarnagar, Bengaluru
Qualification: B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics Engineering any other related field with 3+ years of relevant experience

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and debug firmware for embedded systems across Astrogate's laser communication systems for space & defense
• Interface and collaborate with system engineers and hardware designers to define functional requirements
• Develop clean, well-structured and maintainable code as per industry standards
• Write rapid prototype code to support subsystem development and testing
• Develop software frameworks for continuous integration and development
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system specifications and resolve integration issues
• Ensure adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and software development processes
• Participate in lab and field testing of optical communication systems
• Document tests and manage test setups
• Contribute to peer and external design reviews

Required Skills/Experience

• 3+ years of experience in embedded software development
• Proficiency in Embedded C and C/C++ programming languages
• Understanding of RTOS concepts including multi-threading, interrupt service routines (ISR), and timing management
• Working knowledge of FPGA/SoC-based embedded systems such as Zynq SoC's or ARM Cortex-based microcontrollers
• Hands-on experience with implementing & troubleshooting RS-422, RS-485, CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, and Ethernet (TCP/IP, UDP) communication protocols
• Hardware debug experience, including familiarity with tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and signal generators
• Experience with embedded software debugging, tracing, and profiling tools
• Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and version control systems (e.g., Git)

Desired Skills/Experience

• Experience with FreeRTOS; RTOS/Bare Metal application development for mission-critical systems
• Register level programming and hardware exception handling
• Experience with embedded software implementation on Zynq SoC's and interfacing with custom FPGA modules over AXI interfaces
• Hands-on experience with Xilinx tools like Vivado, Vitis/SDK
• Working knowledge of STM32 or similar ARM-based microcontrollers
• Proven capability on memory management and code optimization 
• Working knowledge of static code analysis & code coverage analysis
