The Mission

Mandrake Bio is a protein-design company building the next generation of programmable gene-editing enzymes. Its platform designs editors from scratch, pairing generative AI with first-principles biophysics and wet-lab validation to engineer the compactness, precision, and dynamic control that the highest-impact applications in agriculture and medicine demand. We are a VC-backed, small, high-velocity applied research lab. We don't care about credentials; we care about proof of work, first-principles thinking, and the ability to ship.

We're scaling our AI team fast and we know the best people rarely fit a template. If you build at the frontier of machine learning — and you want to point that at making biology programmable — we want to hear from you, even if none of our specific openings match.

We're especially interested in people strong in one or more of:

• Foundation models & generative design (proteins, enzymes, DNA/RNA, sequence-structure models).
• ML systems & infrastructure — training at scale, data pipelines, MLOps, eval harnesses.
• Reinforcement learning / model alignment — closing the loop between model predictions and wet-lab results.
• Applied research — turning new architectures into working tools quickly.

You're a Great Fit If You

• Have serious depth in ML/AI and can prove it through work you've shipped or published.
• Think from first principles, move fast, and want extreme ownership.
• Are excited by biology as the ultimate substrate for AI — even if you're coming to it fresh.
