You'll own the mechanical design of Orbit, our mental-fitness wearable — from first sketches to production-ready assemblies. Working alongside industrial designers, electronics engineers, and manufacturing partners, you'll make compact, comfortable hardware that holds up at scale.
This is an on-site role at our Chennai facility, with occasional travel (up to 25%) to toolmakers, vendors, and assembly lines.
## What you'll do
* Drive end-to-end mechanical design for a consumer wearable — sketches, parametric CAD, detailed drawings with GD&T, and BOMs.
* Integrate PCBs, batteries, connectors, sensors, and antennas into enclosures, balancing function, ergonomics, and manufacturability.
* Validate designs with FEA (structural and thermal) and tolerance stack-ups before parts are cut.
* Build and test functional prototypes with 3D printing, CNC, and soft tooling — plus the jigs and fixtures to support them.
* Work with external manufacturers through tooling, pilot builds, audits, and production ramp; debug part issues and iterate fast.
* Tear down and benchmark other wearables to sharpen material, design, and DFM decisions.
## What you'll bring
* 4–8 years of mechanical design for consumer electronics or wearables, on real products that shipped (prototyping- or research-only experience won't be a fit).
* B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related; a master's is welcome but not required.
* Fluency in a parametric CAD tool (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or Fusion 360) for assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
* Strong grasp of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and DFM, plus the materials and processes behind plastics, metals, silicones, and soft goods.
* Hands-on prototyping experience and comfort collaborating across industrial design, human factors, and electronics/firmware.
## Bonus points
* Basic FEA in CAD-integrated tools for early structural and thermal checks.
* Familiarity with ISO 9001, CE, FCC, RoHS, and tests like IP ratings, thermal cycling, and drop performance.
* EMI/EMC awareness.
